Circus (2020)

When I volunteered at a hospital near Ho Chi Minh City treating Agent Orange victims, I was shocked by the sight of tourists. The hospital tour was part of a tourist package, and the hospital was funded through sponsorships. It felt as if the suffering of the patients was being consumed like a circus act. Rather than depicting the scene realistically, I expressed it metaphorically, making it appear like an ordinary performance. The overall illustration was designed to have a fairy-tale atmosphere, emphasizing a seemingly normal appearance from afar. This piece was created with the hope that people could regain their lost innocence.
