Choice (2019/2020)

When engaging in conversations, I always observe facial expressions to gauge the true emotions of others. I often wonder: Do my perceptions match what they truly feel? Inspired by the contemporary Chinese artist Yue Minjun, who exaggerates facial expressions in his critique of society, I created this work. I used the recurring figures from Yue Minjun’s paintings to develop a new composition. The seated figure represents myself, while the hands holding two heads symbolize the excessive awareness and overthinking that many modern individuals experience when interacting with others.
